Prenatal Singing

Are you expecting a baby?

Have you recently given birth?

I will be your guide to the benefits of both prenatal and postnatal singing.

The baby’s auditory memory begins to form around week 17.

You will learn to control your breathing and eliminate all tension, allowing sound to strengthen the bond with your baby.

The workshops are open to pregnant women, close family members, as well as any person they might choose to bring along.

What is prenatal singing all about?

The term refers to several important techniques that women can use before and after giving birth.

First, breathing: A good breathing technique means, of course, taking all of the oxygen that you need, but it is also the secret to a good childbirth experience. Well-trained, slow, and deep breathing will relieve the pain of contractions and benefit your baby. It also helps relax your muscles.

The purpose of prenatal singing is to foster well-being during pregnancy, and even after childbirth. It also prepares the mother for labor and facilitates the bond between baby and parents.

Stress is known to slow down the baby’s progress, delay birth, and increase pain.

Why singing?

This is a practice derived from the concept of Psychophonie: four octaves that resonate together in a particular part of the body, a principle similar to the energetic meridians of Traditional Chinese Medicine or the Hindu concept of energy centers called chakras. In Psychophonie, the parts of the body are the head, chest, pelvis, and legs.

The singing will help the pregnant woman follow all the changes that her body undergoes throughout pregnancy. She will eliminate tension; learn how to breathe; strengthen her abdominal muscles; and gain awareness of her body. The low and high sounds stimulate cervical dilation and play a role in regulating the pain threshold (they influence the production of endorphins, our natural painkillers).

More than sounds, singing provides real sound massages to your baby, while helping develop the baby’s sense of rhythm and balance, essential to his or her neurologic and psychomotor development.

A special repertoire is adapted to the needs of the pregnant woman and the baby, and includes vocal exercises, folk songs, and lullabies, which can have calming or stimulating effects, in full awareness of the perineum.

Testimonials
“Her listening, her energy, and her personalized exercises helped me prepare comfortably for the arrival of my baby. The songs and the sounds soothed my baby and offered me a journey of self-knowledge beyond my expectations. The day my little Antoine chose to arrive, the amazing tools that Marine had given me allowed me to stay focused on my baby, to welcome the contractions serenely, and to truly enjoy the moment. Come meet her, I highly recommend her!” (Audrey)
“I knew how to manage my contractions thanks to the different sounds and positions that we practiced together during the sessions. Marine is kind and really knows how to listen. An absolutely wonderful experience that I recommend to everyone.” (Perrine)
“Even today, I use the ‘o’ sounds for their soothing effect. My little boy also responds to them very well and calms down on hearing the first notes of the Gregorian chant! These sessions gave rhythm to the last stage of my pregnancy, and I experienced each of them as a pleasant moment of relaxation and an escape from everyday life. More than singing, I learned (again) how to breathe and let the air circulate through my body. I found this particularly useful during labor and childbirth.” (Carine)
“You guided me towards the vibrations of my own body, these very special exchanges with my baby that I experienced during each session. I made my first sound, then another one, trying to ‘hold the note’ during each contraction to keep my mind focused. I finally ‘sang’ my way through delivery. I was in my bubble, and nothing could stop me. Thank you for everything,” Marine. (Gaelle)

What does a prenatal singing session look like?

Lasting between 60 and 90 minutes, the session can take place either one-on-one or in a group.

Fathers are welcome to join both one-on-one and group sessions as separate participants.

A session has more or less the following structure:

  • Exercises to open and relax the body
  • Breathing technique and posture
  • Vibrating sounds and/or sound games with instruments
  • Singing
  • Sharing and discussing

The rates apply to the time frame of your choice. You can start practicing body memory as early as the first weeks of pregnancy even if your baby’s auditory memory only develops in week 17.

The practices you will learn during the sessions will help you bond better and faster with your baby. The work with the body centered on vibrations will make it easier for you to practice specific movements, which will benefit both you and your baby.

I am open to devising customized sessions together with the expecting mothers (parents) if the available packages do not meet your requirements.

I am always available and ready to adapt to your needs.

These rates apply to locations within Sète.

For locations outside Sète, rates are available upon request.

I can also provide home consultations.
